Hi,

Does it normal to a teen to have an irregular menstruation? (BTW i'm 17)
Sometimes my menstruation comes out in a 29 days cycle 30 days and sometimes 35. I don't know why I have an irregular menstruation maybe that I'm stressed or what.
And does migraine or headaches before your menstruation starts are normal. I'm having slight headaches 3 days now. Is this a normal PMS symptoms? Thankyou so much for your answers.
Much love <3

Hello kentonsss,

Thank you for coming to us with your concerns regarding your menstrual cycle and PMS.

How long have you been menstruating?

Some girls will find that their menstrual cycle lasts 28 days, whereas others might have a 24-day cycle, a 30-day cycle, or even longer.

Irregular periods are common in girls who are just beginning to menstruate. It may take the body a while to sort out all the changes going on, so a girl may have a 28-day cycle for 2 months, then miss a month, for example. Usually, after a year or two, the menstrual cycle will become more regular. Some women continue to have irregular periods into adulthood, though.

PMS is related to changes in the body's hormones. As hormone levels rise and fall during a woman's menstrual cycle, they can affect the way she feels, both emotionally and physically. Some girls, in addition to feeling more intense emotions than they usually do, notice physical changes along with their periods — some feel bloated or puffy because of water retention, others notice swollen and sore breasts, and some get headaches.

kentonsss, a migraine headache can cause intense throbbing or a pulsing sensation in one area of the head and is commonly accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and extreme sensitivity to light and sound. Is this what you are experiencing? If so, you may need to see a physician about this.

Otherwise, a mild headache that goes away once your period starts is most likely a premenstrual symptom and nothing to worry too much about.

If you are concerned about your irregular menstrual cycle, consider scheduling an appointment with a gynecologist, who can rule out a hormonal issue and prescribe an oral contraceptive to help regulate your cycle.

Thank you so much for your answer Ms/Mrs Maryann ,
Now I have more information about menstruation.
But just another question, how do I regulate my period? Is there a natural way to regulate it? Or maybe some activites or daily routine? Thankyou

Guide (reply to kentonsss)

Hi kentonsss,

Tincture of time. At some point as you get older, your cycle will probably settle into a recognizable pattern. This usually happens by 3 years after your first period.

if your periods are irregular for 3 years or more, see a doctor. The doctor may prescribe hormone pills or other medications or recommend lifestyle changes that can help you to have regular periods.

Some women have changes in their period because they exercise too much. Reducing the frequency and intensity of your workouts may help your period return to normal. Stress leads to many body changes, including irregular periods. Relaxation techniques and counseling may be helpful.

Extreme changes in your weight can affect your periods. Weight gain can interfere with the body's ability to ovulate, which controls your menstrual cycle. Losing weight may help resolve irregular periods. Extreme sudden weight loss can also lead to infrequent or irregular periods.

Hope this helps:)
