Q:

What are the comparisons of ceramic on ceramic hip replacement units vs. metal on metal in regard to wear debri and longevity when implanting a fairly young, active woman?

I am an equestrian, have metal allergies to stainless steel and nickel...and a concerned about having a total hip redo due to wear debri or reaction to metal components in a Zimmer product.

Hello bronze,

This is a topic that should be discussed with your orthopedic surgeon. During your consultation, your surgeon should present the hip replacement options that are available and suggest which one is best for you.

Your surgeon knows the extent of damage to your hip, your allergies, and particular needs.
