Hi Anonymous,
May 5, 2011 - 7:11amThank you for your question, and for finding EmpowHER. Congratulations on your pregnancy! The key in the first trimester, is to eat what you can. It can sometimes help if you eat small meals several times a day rather than large ones. A bland diet also may help (banana, rice, apple, toast, yogurt). I always called it the, "I have to eat every 2 hours otherwise I may throw-up" feeling when I was pregnant. It's important to stay hydrated also, to avoid dehydration, which can be especially dangerous for a pregnant woman. You may want to try sucking on hard candy in fruit flavors, or pectin throat drops (no decongestant cough drops) to help control any excess saliva you may have.
If you have severe morning sickness (hyperemesis gravidarum), you can call your doctor. They may be able to proscribe an anti-nausea medication. The caveat with taking one though is that one anti-nausea medication can make you incredibly tired, and the other one can make you constipated! Can't win for losing that 1st trimester, can you?
