Q:

What are my chances of getting pregnant if i missed one pill and made it up ASAP?

I missed one pill Thursday night, in my third week, but made it up as soon as i woke up on Friday morning. I also took my pill about 3 hours late on Saturday night, which would have been my last active pill. My boyfriend and I had sex soon after. We used a condom, but it broke. He had already went shortly before we had sex. He went inside of me not knowing the condom broke, but he barely went. What are my chances of getting pregnant?

So on Sunday night I forgot my pill. I took it as soon as I woke up on Monday, as well as taking the Monday pill on time. On Tuesday my boyfriend and I had sex without a condom and he ejaculated inside of me. I was wondering if my chances of getting pregnant are more significant now, or if I am still as safe as I normally am on the pill.

Hi there!
I've been on the pill (yasmin) for quite a while now, a year or two, and there has always been a difference in the time I take it. And when I say difference, I mean it's pretty all over the place. Usually I take it at around 9pm - 2am every day... but recently I have forgotten to take it altogether and make up for it the next day in the morning at say 7am - 12am. So it's never been accurate at all..

My dilemma is that I was staying at my boyfriends and just before having unprotected sex I went to the bathroom and took the pill from the night before... I couldn't tell you what time I had last taken a pill though as I honestly cannot remember. Anyway, that was about 10 days ago, and I was supposed to get my period 4 days ago. This is weird for me, as due to being on the pill I have never been late..

All of this is worrying enough, but to top it off for the past three days I have been feeling so bloated and gassy in my tummy. Not sure if symptoms occur this early, or if I'm just reading into things too much? Help would be much appreciated!!

Hello Anonymous,

I don't think you need to worry. You did the right thing by doubling up to make up for the missed dose. To be safe, use another type of birth control, such as a condom, as a backup measure until you start your next packet.

Hello!

I went to take my pill yesterday and noticed an extra pill. So I assume I forgot to take a pill and I'm not sure which day I forgot. I have been taking the pills regularly as if I didn't forget a day and I usually take my pills at the same time everyday. I doubled up yesterday and took the pill for the day + the extra one. Should I be worried since I had sex with my boyfriend. Should I be using a backup method until I start my next packet??

Hello Anonymous,

You can relax. You did the right thing, by doubling up on Saturday to make up for the missed dose on Friday. So, by taking two doses on Saturday, you were protected when you had intercourse.

Hello Anonymous,

Continue to take your birth control pills regularly and you will not get pregnant.

Hello Anonymous,

The product, which you used, was probably a spermicide. Spermicide is a birth control method that contains chemicals that stop sperm from moving. Spermicides are available in different forms, including creams, film, foams, gels, and suppositories.

Testing for pregnancy with a home pregnancy test eliminates the guesswork and concern. Wait at least two or three more days and test. You will get a more accurate result if you wait at least one week from when your period was due to start.

Thank you, Maryann

I've tested twice and I came up negative, but it's now been a full week since my cycle should have started. I've never had it be this late before, and especially since starting BC. I know stress can affect it, but I didn't image it would be this long.
