Q:

What are my chances of getting pregnant if i missed one pill and made it up ASAP?

I missed one pill Thursday night, in my third week, but made it up as soon as i woke up on Friday morning. I also took my pill about 3 hours late on Saturday night, which would have been my last active pill. My boyfriend and I had sex soon after. We used a condom, but it broke. He had already went shortly before we had sex. He went inside of me not knowing the condom broke, but he barely went. What are my chances of getting pregnant?

Anon,

You should be fine. First of all, you are not having unprotected sex when you are on birth control pills! That is protection! And second, when you miss only one pill and make it up as you did, your protection is almost as high as if you didn't miss a pill. And then third, you went and used the morning-after pill, and you used it within the recommended time of 72 hours. So I can't see how you possibly could be pregnant after all that. Just keep taking your birth control pills until you are finished with this pack; I am guessing your period will come then as expected. Try not to stress about it too much, as that in itself can throw your body off.

Does that help?

yes that helped greatly . i have been thinking about it a lot. at the moment amy lower abdomen is quite hard/firm when i am standing up but when sitting or lying down it isnt. i dont know if i am taking too much notice or if my lower abdomen is always this frim. i usually get me period four days after i stop taking the pill ( which should be in about nine days time). will the morning after pill still alter when my period comes if i am on the pill. i have read your perriod can come early or late after taking it, is that still the case when i am taking the pill

Yes, the morning-after pill can change when your normal period comes, but since you are still taking your birth control pills, I honestly would expect that you'll have your period at the normal time.

And I think you're just overly worried about this and noticing every little tiny thing that you would never notice otherwise. Women who do get pregnant rarely have any symptoms until after they have missed a period. A few do, but not this early in their cycles. Don't fret so much -- I really think you're going to be fine. You did everything right.

I have to say i'm still worrying but Im pretty positive that between my birth control and Plan B theres like a .01% chance of me being pregnant. Still scary. Ive got a week until my expected start date.

Try not to fret. You did everything you possibly could, and stressing over it could delay your period and worry you even more. Just go about your normal life and push this worry to the back shelf for a few more days if you can. And please let us know when you do.

So I missed a pill at some point within this last week and it was on my second week. The next morning I woke up and took the pill. My boyfriend and I were having sex tonight and when he pulled out the condom fell off and was hanging out of me. What are the chances that I can become pregnant?

Anon,

Since you made up the missed pill as soon as you remembered, you should be fine. (In other words, you took two pills that next day, right?)

I'm sorry that the condom fell off, but this is why we use backup methods of birth control, so that if one fails, we have the other to rely on. Good for you, and I don't think you have to worry. I know it seems like it since the two things happened closely together, but in general, if you miss one pill and make it up by taking two the next day, your protection from pregnancy doesn't change. It's only when you miss two or more pills that it would be more worrisome.

Thanks! We went ahead and made the decision to get Plan B anyways. We've been togehter for a couple years now but kids just arent an option in our busy lives!

I'm so glad that you had the option, and that you went ahead and made the decision. It's much better than waiting and perhaps worrying through the entire month.

Thank you for your question. The best thing to do is wait until after you actually missed your period. When you miss, then purchase a pregnancy test to see what the results are. You can purchase a pregnancy test for $1.00 at a local Dollar Store.

Every time you have sex, you have a chance to become pregnant even on the Pill. Do you also use condoms?
