The menstrual cycle is regulated by a precise balance of hormones. Many factors can upset this balance and cause a delayed or missed period.
However, if a 22 year old female who has never had intercourse suddenly does not get a period and this continues for two years, there is a serious hormonal imbalance.
She needs to be seen by a gynecologist, who can do a physical exam, obtained a medical history, and order any necessary testing, including blood tests to check hormone levels and a pelvic ultrasound.
