I have had a partial kidney removal due to clear cell cancer (chromophobe). Lately at various times I experience bleeding from a split in my labia minora. I am worried but I don't want to do anything if it is common. I have a well woman check coming up in Feb. Is it okay to wait until then or should I make an appointment earlier.

The cortizone was over the counter not prescription strength. The directions said it was okay to use. Wasn't prolonged, just when it happens. It stopped again and that is why I didn't call. The doctor will think I'm nuts. Thanks for all your input. I'm fine.

You know it isn't the easiest thing to describe. If it was a significant amount of blood I would have called a few months ago. I use cortizone on it and triple antibiotic ointment when it happens. I wasn't worried about infection until you mentioned it. Whatever happens I will let you know. Thanks again for your help.

If you are able to call your doctor, I would also ask about using cortizone around the genital area. This is a drug that should be used minimally, and especially careful (with no prolonged use) around the genital and rectal areas (unless directed by a doctor). I would not use cortizone anywhere near my genitals unless specifically recommended by a doctor, so I think a quick call would be helpful!

Thank you for the update. Did you have unprotected sex or any injury to the region?

No that would make it easy to understand. However I just turned 60 and I'm thinking its something that just happens when you get " long in the tooth", if you know what I mean. Not on HRT, married for 16 years, no wild orgies. I just now realized where the blood was coming from. Its not like I spend much time studying that area. I think I will wait for my well woman exam and ask. I don't think another few weeks will make a difference. Thanks for answering my question.

I don't think it would hurt to call your doctor, and describe the split (how big is it, is it labia minora or labia majora), if it is causing pain or discomfort, and how much blood you see and how often. Your doctor or doctor's nurse can then decide with you if it's worth moving your appointment up to an earlier day, as February is still a significant amount of time away that I would not want the split/cut to become infected. They may even be able to tell you how to take care of the cut in the meantime. Let us know what your doctor/nurse advises!

Hi Ardith,
Let me make sure I understand this right...your labia minor is bleeding due to a split. What caused the split? Is your bleeding related to your kidney cancer or were you just explaining that for background?
Please let me know so I can help you more.

The cancer was background info. I don't know what caused either one. The split just happens like a paper cut. Doesn't bleed always, just at times. That's what I wondered if it happens to anyone else. Its not something you talk about in casual conversation with a friend or family member.
