Hi Anon!

Thank you for your post!

At age 50, your fertile days are or have coming to an end. This creates an irregular menstrual cycle whether that means more bleeding, less bleeding or infrequent bleeding with an unreliable cycle.
You may be in perimenopause which is the time period before menopause. This period can start as early as the late 30s.

When ovulation is inconsistent, you may experience symptoms including periods spaced out by longer or shorter amounts of time, a heavy or light flow, or skipped periods.

Shorter cycles are common - this may be what is happening with you.

You can read a lot more about perimnenopause here: http://www.empowher.com/perimenopause/content/symptoms-perimenopause

Remember some women have very few symptoms of perimenopause, some have many. Everyone woman is different.

I hope this helps!
