have just been seen by gynaecology, they have said that the front vaginal wall is completely collapsed and that the only option is surgery. They also said they could remove my womb at the same time. At present i am certain i dont want more children but i dont want the chance removed completely, sure the doctor said they could do it without removing the womb. I would like to know if it is possible to have a baby after surgery (if my current situation changed) and what complications it might cause, if i have this info feel i could make a more informed decision. thankyou

Hi, I had vaginal surgery for a slight prolapse of the vaginal wall 1 year after having my second child. I was told that I couldn't have surgery if I was planning on having more children so I lied and said I wasn't as the prolapse was really effecting my life in a negative way. I now want a third child but definately don't want a vaginal delivery (like my first two) and would prefer a c section to hopefully avoid another prolapse. Has anyone had a similar experience? would this be reason enough to receive a c section. I would almost rather not have a third child than go through a vaginal delivery again. I would be grateful for any advice out there :)

If you are wanting a child, you need to discuss with your doctor your ability to carry a child, and what (if any) affect it may have on your prolapse returning. I do not know if a c-section would avoid prolapse. Again, you need to discuss it with your doctor--the answers you receive may help you determine if you truly are ready to go for #3.
Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

Thanks for the advice. I think you're right, the best first step is to speak to a healthcare professional. I'll let you know how I get on. Thanks

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for coming back! It is completely natural to get freaked out at the doctor's office. You may want to make a list of your questions. And make note of the answers so you can remember later on. Here are some you may want to ask your GP:
1. What kind of pelvic floor disorder(s) (prolapse) do I have? (cystocele, rectocele, etc.)
2. What is causing my symptoms?
3. Will my symptoms get better?
4. What can I do to lessen or end these symptoms?
5. Do you see a lot of other patients like me?
6. Do you know of any doctors who specialize in treating my symptoms, such as urogynecologists?
7. If so, can you refer me to someone you would recommend?
8. Will you work with the specialist to make sure he or she knows
about my medical history?
9. Can I contact you again to ask your advice after seeing a specialist?
10. What should I do next?
11. If I think of more questions later, can I call or e-mail you?
Good luck and let us know what you find out. Don't be afraid to call the doctor's office and ask the doctor's nurse questions as needed too. They are there to help you understand your options and take care of you particular to your personal situation and health history.

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and for finding EmpowHER.
Do you know what type of surgery the doctor is recommending? And what kind of prolapse do you have (cystocele, rectocele, etc.)? I know treatment for vaginal prolapse can depend on the desire for future pregnancy, so it may help to know. If you undergo a full hysterectomy, you will not be able to carry a child.
Please come back with more information so we may help you. Looking forward to your reply.
