Q:

What do you do if you have never had sex but you haven't had your period for about 32 days?

I am almost 14 years old. It may seem weird that I am on a website to ask about my lady problems but my mother and sister are no help and my dad, well, he is my dad. I have had my period for over a year and from then to now I have kept an accurate record of when I have gotten and when I have ended my menstrual cycle. Since January or December of this year (well not December, but ya) I have gotten my period on the 16th. It is now may and I expected to get my period yesterday but it didn't come. Hopefully I thought it would come today but it didn't. I am now really worried because I know I can't be pregnant since I have never had sex and it doesn't seem normal today to have not of had your period in 32 days. I have no idea what to do except to just wait and stress myself out. Please help me because I am not sure if this is just normal or if I am really going crazy.

Thank you very much,

A. N. W.

(don't laugh at me my parent's didn't mean to name me after a root beer company.)

Hi Anon,

Please don't be afraid to talk to your mom. If you have never had sex, you don't have to worry about the possibility of pregnancy.

You may have ovarian cysts, which can happen and often go away on their own but you should really speak to your mom so that she can schedule an appointment with your doctor and then get a referral for an OB/GYN.

Remember this is for your health,

Rosa

Hi Anon,

Please read our previous responses to others in your same situation. Teenagers can sometimes have irregular periods which may regulate themselves as you get older and out of your teens.

If you are still worried, please schedule an appointment with your doctor and have your parents take you.

Best Wishes,

Rosa

I am 18 years old and I'm missing my period by 2 days.I have never missed a period even by one day. I am still a virgin, but the only thing remotely close to me becoming so was an experience with a penis not entering my vagina but near it with my underwear still on. this occurred in mid-November of this year (now MID December 2011), but I my period still came right on time two weeks later. I have not had any sexual contact since then. Maybe I'm overly paranoid, but could I be pregnant? What else could be the reason why it has not come yet? Is it too early for me to even be worried at this stage?
BTW, I just finished college finals, and I had been super stressed out could that have been a factor?

Can you be more specific?

Generically "being tired" is a normal part of the ebb-and-flow of living...it is something that we all are at times, either from stress, lack of sleep, illness, pre-menstrual symptoms, etc.

I am unclear if you are saying your period is four days late? It is normal to have fluctuations in our period start date. If you have not had sex (since this is the main thread), you can wait a week to see if your period will start.

As Alison said in the post just before yours, missing a period can be normal. If you don't start your period within the next few weeks then you will need to get in touch with your gynecologist's office. Doctors usually are not concerned if a woman missed 1 or 2 periods in-a-row (and are certain they are not pregnant), so it really is that common for women to either miss a period entirely, or be late (or even early) for their period.

Hi,
I am 15 years old and I haven't started my period in a month and a half now. But I haven't had sex ever. I haven't even felt like I'm going to. I had discharge last month but it stopped obbrumptly and I haven't had any since. I'm supposed to start torwards the end of the month like the 19th or 20th. And it's really starting to scare me. Advice please?
