I heard there is a new flu out that is affecting dogs. Does anyone know any information on this subject? Thanks.

The CDC has information regarding "dog flu" or "canine influenza" (H3N8). It is a virus that is spread only from dogs, and there have been no reported cases of transmission to humans. The CDC says about 80% of dogs will have a mild form of the disease, and symptoms include cough, fever, runny nose.

If your dog has a cough, it is recommended to have it evaluated by the veterinarian. You can read more information at the CDC website (click here), as well as search other links to the American Veterinary Medical Association and CDC's Healthy Pets site.

Did you find this information helpful? Is your dog experiencing any symptoms, or do you know of a family or friend's pet who is? If so, it is recommended to keep sick dogs at home, so they are not spreading the virus to other dogs.
