What happens if you take 3 of your birth control pills at once?

I was wondering what happens if you forgot to take 2 of your birth control pills and you decide to take three of them in one dose without calling your doctor first? The birth control pill that I am currently taking is Yasmin.

Hi Anonymous,

Do not make up for the missed doses. You should start having withdrawal bleeding. Once the bleeding stops, start a new pack.

Hello, I took 4 birth control pills for four days only and i stopped taking it. I missed my period for 3 weeks now. Is it because the pills I missed my period?

I've been taking the mini pill for about 2 months (almost done with my 2nd pack) and will be starting the combination pill lo loestrin (I was on this a few months ago and like it better). My doctor told me to start the new combo pill when my period starts. It started today but I took the mini pill today at 4pm.. my period started literally like an hour later! Should I still take the combo pill tonight being that my period started today? will it hurt taking them both today?

Hello Anonymous,

On this, please contact your gynecologist's office. I don't have enough knowledge to advise you and would not want to mislead you.

Hello, I missed two pills early in week 3 (on a Sunday and Monday) and realized it early Tuesday morning, so I took both the pills I missed that morning. I took the Tuesday pill later that night. Then yesterday night I took another pill as usual. I realize now I should have thrown out the pack and started a new one, but what should I do now? Keep taking the last few pills of week 3 and use protection until after my period? Or should I start my new pack now and use protection for 7 days?

Hello Anonymous,

Because this happened during week 3, I think you did the right thing and should continue with this pack. Use alternate protection if you have intercourse before you experience withdrawal or breakthrough bleeding.

Maryann
