There are several different kinds of thyroid conditions. What is hypothyroidism and how is it different from hyperthyroidism? What causes hypothyroidism?

Hi Anon!

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community! Hypothyroidism is a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough of certain important hormones.

Hypothyroidism is the opposite of hyperthyroidism – or overactive thyroid – a condition in which the thyroid gland makes too much thyroxine.

I included a link to an article from the EmpowHER community that has all the potential causes for hypothyroidism. Please check it out. http://www.empowher.com/hypothyroidism/content/hypothyroidism-about-underactive-thyroid

Anon, was this helpful?
