I read an article about panniculus the other day, but I'm still confused about what it is. What is panniculus?

Guide

Hello Erin,

The definition of panniculus is layer of tissue. Most often, the term abdominal panniculus adiposus is used to refer to a sheet of fat tissue that is present in the lower abdominal area. The fat layer appears to hang.

Commonly, people may refer this extra fat tissue as a "spare tire", "muffin tops" or "love handles".

Abdominal panniculus can be seem with obesity, following pregnancy, or after significant weight loss.
