Q:

What should I be eating to assist me with my renal insufficiency?

I have had high blood pressure for at least 35 years, although not always medicated. 10 years ago I also became diabetic and have been on a pill regiment to keep my numbers relatively lowered, although a lack of a job for the past 4 years has left me uninsured and therefore not necessarily working with a physician therefore non-medicated until recently. I've just been diagnosed with renal insufficiency and I need to know how to deal with this as I have no way to go to a specialist without insurance to cover the costs. I am 60 years of age and overweight.

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. The main thing to remember is that the kidneys are used to get rid of waste in the body so in other words staying away from foods that are unhealthy will be helpful. Here is some information that may be helpful http://www.drugs.com/cg/renal-failure-diet.html.

I hope this helps.
