My niece is currently in the hospital and we are not sure what is going on with her. The doctors tried to do a Cholesterol test and when they put her blood in the machine it dissolved. Her blood turns dark and the machine wont give them results. The doctor had to refine her blood in order for the machine to give results. The results said that her triglycerides is 2200, but her cholesterol is normal. Shes only 17 and she lives in Portugal, so i'm afraid some of the doctors there might not know what to do. can you help us?

Hello Anon
Thank you for writing. When a loved one is ill abroad, it's extra troubling but Portugal has excellent health care in general and ranked one of the highest on the world. It's also a non-profit system, unlike the US so she (or her family) won't go bankrupt trying to pay for her healthcare. She's likely in very good hands.
Triglycerides are fats in the blood. A level of 2200 is high. This could affect her heart. What is her general health like? At 17, she should have family with her - is this the case? If not, someone needs to fly over there to advocate for her. We could only guess as to what may be going on.
