I have been taking birth controll for three or four monthes now. I missed one pill in my third week and i took two the next day like you are supposed too. But i started bleeding a little so i continued taking the birth control its been four days since i missed that pill and im still bleeding. I don't know if i should stop taking the birth control and finish my normal cycle or finish the pills and see what happens. I only have one pill left anyways so ill finish them but this has happened before and i just want to know if its normal or if i should stop taking my birth control. Another thing i had sex with my boyfriend the day i missed my pill and when we were having sex it kinda hurt maybe it was the position. I don't like saying this but he does have a large penis and im thinking that might have been why it was hurting. But im not totally sure i was lying on my stomach and he was lying on top of my back, i was almost in tears it hurt so much. So i was wondering why it hurt so much and why im still bleeding?

Hi, Hailz08,

Welcome to EmpowHer, and thanks so much for your question.

It sounds like a couple of different things could be going on.

First of all, it is possible to have a little breakthrough bleeding when you miss a pill. Missing a pill interrupts the hormone flow your body gets used to, and interrupting that could deceive your body. (Making it up the next day was the right thing to do.) And finishing the pack is the right thing to do.

Since you have just been taking the birth control for three or four months now, you're still getting used to how the prescription affects your body and your cycle. I think it's very normal. As long as the breakthrough bleeding just happens when you miss a pill, it seems normal. If you have breakthrough bleeding when you don't miss a pill, you may want to check with your doctor to see if a different birth control pill may be better for you.

And yes, it sounds very much to me like the sexual position you were in could have caused not only the pain but perhaps even the bleeding, from irritation or a tear to the vagina. Could this have been possible? I am so sorry you were in such pain. When you are in the position that you described, his penis enters you at a much different angle, and it clearly caused you a lot of discomfort. When it was happening to you, did you not feel you could ask your boyfriend to stop and change positions?

I told him to stop and he did I told him how it felt and i don't think we be doing that again. Thank you for the explination of everything im so glad i found this web site it's a good help i think every girl should be on here. If it was the tear to my vagina how would i know it didnt hurt anymore after the sex or the day after? Thanks again!

If you had an actual tear to your vagina, it would continue to hurt and burn. Most likely, the tissue around your vagina and vulva were just being pulled and stretched uncomfortably, and there is not likely to be a problem if you are no longer experiencing pain.

Please know that you can try different sexual positions, and if it hurts, you can suggest a slight "tweak", ask him to go a little slower, or use some store-bought lubrication.
