Q:

Why do I have vaginal itching, soreness, and what looks like tissue discharge?

I am 24 years old and have a 27 month old daughter. I started birth control (the pill) a few days ago on the first day of my period. The day before, I woke up with a bad burn and itch down below. It is vaginal so I know it wasn't a UTI. I don't have those symptoms. This is the sixth day and it has gotten better day by day and I really don't feel it too bad anymore. It seems my period has ended. It only usually lasts 4-5 days and this is the 5th day. Like I said the burning and itchiness has basically subsided for the most part. I can still feel it, but not nearly as bad, but now I am getting what looks like a tissue like substance when I wipe. I've never seen anything like it. It's a bit bloody and pinkish brownish. Not very big at all. Just tiny pieces. I am not having pelvic pain or any other pain other than the slight itching and soreness down below. I'm just wondering what in the world this could be. Yeast infection maybe? I don't have a "cheesy" discharge. Is it just normal end of the period discharge or maybe it got so irritated down there that it caused peeling? I don't see anything when I look down there. I am a little freaked out. Please help!!

Weird that you mention it started with the birth control, I've got the same stuff 2 days after getting a copper IUD inserted, wondering how worried I should be 0.o

Kelise,

Based on what you're describing-- with the itching and burning-- It does sound as though you may have a yeast infection. I'm not sure what the tissue-like discharge may be but it could very well be the clumpy discharge women get with a yeast infection.

It would be best if you went to a gynecologist to visually inspect you and run proper tests to diagnose your condition and treat you for it. Bacterial Vaginosis and Trichomoniasis also have similar symptoms to a yeast infection so it is very important that you get diagnosed by a doctor.

If you do not have a gynecologist and would like for us to help you find one in your area, please let me know.

All the best,

Rosa

Also just to add, there is no foul smell either.

Thanks for your input. I would think the same with the fact that it is not feeling worse but better. I'm thinking the discharge is just a combo of my period ending and maybe the yeast infection discharge making it look that way. It's not a whole lot. I know it's not Trichomoniasis. I am married and have only been with him and he hasn't been with anyone else either. I know for sure. I've been curious about putting an activated charcoal paste on the exterior to see if it rids of the itching and possibly killing the infection. (I'm all about finding a natural cure if possible.) But if this doesn't get better by the end of the week, or gets worse, I'll be going to the doctor.
