Is there something in it that actually helps with the sickness? Or is it just placebo

Hi Anon

Thanks for your question - it's a great one!

There may certainly be a placebo effect going on here; there are in many circumstances, even when taking real (or the sugar pill) versions of pharmaceutical. I think we vastly underestimate the placebo effect.

However, there does seem to be real merit in chicken soup, especially when a person has a cold or the flu.

Scientists haven't quite figured out any one magic ingredient but it's thought the healthy combination of many vegetables and a lean protein like chicken soup, as well as the heat from the soup being comforting and possibly helping to clear stuffiness, all combine to help make a sick person feel better.

These ingredients are known as infection fighting which also help to speed recovery.

Have you tried it when you are sick, Anon? Did it help?
