When I woke up yesterday morning I noticed that everytime I blinked my lower eyelid felt sore on my left eye. It feels as though there's a bruise there but on the inside. Today it feels a little worse. The inside of the eyelid looks a little red but nothing major. What is this?

Well, first it would help to know what might have caused this.
Were you exposed to windblown dirt or sand?
Are you allergic to pet dander and exposed to an animal you're allergic to?
Do you sleep on a feather/down-filled pillow?
Did you change your laundry detergent?
When was the last time you replaced your mascara or eyeliner?
Do you wear contacts?
Have you been exposed to anyone who has pink eye?
Were you rubbing your eye more than usual?
Can you think of any other possible injury to your eye?

Thanks for your response alysiak. I think I've figured out what's causing my eyelid to be sore. It seems to be a pimple on the inside of my lower eyelid. I asked my Mom and she has had one before also. I thought it was pink eye because my husband had it a week ago and it very well could be, except my eye doesn't itch or have that gooey substance. I've also ruled out all the other possiblilites such as changing the laundry detergent, makeup, contacts which I don't wear etc.

Hi Steph!
I'm sorry that you are having this problem with your eye! I've had this type of thing before and even though the pimple-like bump is pretty small I remember feeling like I had a golf ball in there. My first thought when I read your post was "I think she might have a stye." Here is a link to our stye page at EmpowHer--note that it's also described as looking like a pimple:

Styes are pretty common and as you'll see under "treatment" it looks like they often go away on their own. I know mine did. But it's still a good idea to keep an eye on it (oh man, no pun intended!) and make sure it's not getting worse. Let us know when you can if you think this might be it. Best in health, Michelle
August 27, 2009 - 10:23pmHi Michelle, thanks for the info. It does sound like I have a stye, although it's not as painful as it could be from what I read (not yet at least). I hope it heals relatively quick. I'll keep an "eye" on it heehee...

April 13, 2010 - 5:47pmI have that pain in my lower eyelid as well and it hurts like really bad!!!! This is how it all started. I was cryin a few dayz ago and i rubbed my eyes to get rid of the tears and applied some eyeliner so that i wouldnt look so terrible. Moments later that pain came in my left eye but it didn't really hurt like how it does now. I thought it was because of the eyeliner but even when i take it off it still hurts very bad maybe even worse!...PLEASE HELP ME!
May 5, 2010 - 4:25pmAnon - While you're in pain it would be best to not apply eyeliner as the movements in applying it, and removing it, will make your situation worse. Could you have had any type of substance on your hand when you rubbed your eyes? How old was the eyeliner you used? Could it possibly be contaminated and have caused an infection? Is the pain confined to your eyelid, or is the pain coming from your eye? Here's a link which provides a lot of information on what can cause eye pain: http://www.emedicinehealth.com/eye_pain/article_em.htm
It sounds like you've been dealing with this for about a week, and that the pain is getting progressively worse. It would be in your best interest to see an eye care specialist and get a professional exam and opinion. Will you let us know what you learn? We wish you the best outcome possible. Pat
