Q:

Why does my vagina burn now after sex when it didn't when I lost my virginity?

Every time I have sex with my boyfriend, I always find myself burning around my vagina afterwards. It's not a UTI or anything. I've checked. I'm just wondering what's going on. I'd like to have sex knowing that I won't be hurting for 30 minutes, waiting for it to go away, afterwards. I want to know ASAP, please. <3

Hi Anonymous,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. UTIs are certainly common when you first have sex. You may also be experiencing a yeast infection which is also common after having sexual intercourse.

The problem is, without going to see your doctor, this is a hard question to answer as you should always be checked up from your physician since you should be checked for any sexually transmitted diseases since you are starting to have sex. Also, if you are using condoms, you may have an allergy etc. There can be many issues surrounding the itching. Can you go see your doctor?

Thanks, Missie

My boyfriend is clean and I lost my virginity to him and have only been with him, so I'm clean too. It's not a UTI as UTI's usually last a while until you get a prescription and stuff for it. The burning feeling only lasts like 30 minutes after we have sex. We aren't using condoms because I'm on Depo-Provera shot birth control. I know I should be, but I don't.
