Why is my period late?

Hi, so I am a teen but I’ve always had extremely regular cycles. Sometimes it’s a day or two early but that’s it. It’s also extremely heavy. I’m talking a super tampon leaks after 30 minutes heavy. But, I’m late. I’m a virgin so there’s no risk there but I’m wondering if there is anything wrong or anything I can do to get it back on schedule. I’ve spotted just a bit but that was early on and no signs of it now. I’m 9 days late, and I know that wouldn’t normally be a big deal but... I’m not more stressed than normal and haven’t made any major changes. I have cramps but that’s the only symptom I’ve had.

Hello Harmony37

Thank you for writing.

The teen years can see many changes in the cycle. From regular to not, from irregular to regular or somewhere in between. From light to heavy or the other way around. It's frustrating but not uncommon. This may be the case for you. My advice is to mention it to your doctor on your next visit. It's likely hormonal and will settle down for you but a blood test can let you know more.
Best,
Susan
