Hi omolayo,

Glad to hear he's narrowed it down a bit. Here's a video that explains the reason for bloody gums:

I hope that helps. If there is a build up of tartar or plaque, it's best for your husband to visit a dentist to get that taken care of.

Best,

Danielle.

thanks for your contributions, we realise that he has a gum problem... that is why he sees blood , but he mistakenly thought it was the throat. But what can we do to that pls?

Guide

If your husband is noticing bleeding only when he is brushing his teeth, it is possible that the cause is gum inflammation or gum disease,
If indeed, the cause was a respiratory problem involving the throat or lungs, your husband would be coughing up or spitting up blood frequently, not just when he brushed his teeth.
Bleeding gums are mainly due to inadequate plaque removal from the teeth at the gum lines. This will lead to a condition called gingivitis or inflamed gums. If the plaque is not removed, it will harden into what is known as tartar. This will lead to increased bleeding and a more advanced form of gum and jawbone disease known as periodontitis.
If your husband has not visited the dentist, I suggest he make an appointment for a dental cleaning and plaque removal.
Should the dentist not find any evidence of gum disease, then I suggest making an appointment with his medical doctor to determine the cause of the bleeding.

Hi omolayo,

Without having a little bit more information, it's hard to say what's going on. Does he feel pain in the back of his throat as well? How long has this been going on? Does it just look red and bloody, or is he actually seeing blood on his toothbrush?

Does he have any other symptoms?

Oftentimes, a red, bloody looking throat can be the sign of a strep infection. This can be the result of inflammation of the pharynx, larynx, and tonsils.

Visit out Strep Throat page to find out more: https://www.empowher.com/media/reference/strep-throat

With a little bit more information, we can help to narrow it down!

Good luck,

Danielle.
