It started out with a ringing in my ears and progressed into a week of postionary vertigo. The doc told me it was acute labyrinthitis. It should have gone away in a couple of weeks but I am still having symptoms so I saw an ENT. She told me it was post labyrinthitis hydrops. I have looked this up but keep getting that it is meniere's disease. It isn't the same thing. I just want to know if I will recover from this...

Hi daniegirl - Yes, you're correct. While labyrinthitis has some similarities to Meniere's disease, it's a different condition. You can find extensive information about labyrinthitis on our reference page: http://www.empowher.com/media/reference/labyrinthitis#definition

Depending on your situation you may also want to pursue a vestibular rehabilitation program. You can learn more about that from the Vestibular Disorders Association
as well as from this article: http://www.empowher.com/news/herarticle/2010/04/14/dizziness-disorders-new-specialized-treatments-available

Please let us know if this information helps you. We wish you the best, Pat
