Hi
i recently started on yasmin (24 July 2009), on my third week, on the 08, 09, & 10 Aug 2009 i missed the pills because i have been sick and forgot to take them, however i had uprotected sex. On the 11 i had withdrawal bleeding, the doctor gave me antibiotics and told me to follow the 7 days rule and the hpt came out negative which i think it was so because it was early to tell if i am pregnant or not. how soon can i get back on the pill or should i wait till i know for sure if i am pregnant or not. has anyone experieced this or am i the only one.

Can you clarify your acronyms, please? Are you a patient, needing health advice, or it sounds like you may be a medical student wanting clarification on prescription (if the latter, it is inappropriate use of this site).

If you are a patient, I want to make sure to give you accurate information, and want to make sure we are defining correctly:

o.d
pt.
b.d

Hi- I stopped taking birth control on the Tuesday of my second week on the pack. I had unprotected sex two times during that time... I had a withdrawal period 4 days later. It has now been almost two weeks since I've been off the pill. I normally would get my period next week because that's when I take my sugar pills, but since I had withdrawal bleeding my body is thrown off schedule. Could I be pregnant since I had sex after stopping my pills and since I had withdrawal bleeding? Thanks!

I wanted to mention that you may not have your period exactly when you are expecting it, as missing 3 days-in-a-row hormonal contraception can throw off the balance of hormones in your body, and may make your period or withdrawal bleeding irregular for a few months.

You would be able to test again for pregnancy 2-3 weeks after the dates you had unprotected sex ( August 24th would probably be the earliest, and you would probably want to check again later than week).

The earliest a home pregnancy test could detect a pregnancy would be 2 weeks after you ovulated; which is also the time you would expect your period (ovulation occurs about 2 weeks before a period).

If you are worried, not sleeping, and scared of another miscarriage, please call your doctor. Take care.

Hi Alison, thanx once again,s promised i wanted 2 keep u updated. On the 24th i took an hpt and it came out negative bt no periods yet and now im 3 days late and there is no sign that they are coming cos usually i would get little cramps and i would definetly know my periods are on the way. Do u think that the pills or the withdrawal bleeding has messed up my cycle or could it be that im preg its just that it hasn't registered yet?

Hi, Thanks for keeping us updated!

I just re-read your original post. Did your doctor give you antibiotics because you were sick? (It sounded like it was related to your missing pills..ha!).

My only question: if you hadn't missed your 3 days of pills, when would you have expected your period? The dates I provided were more estimated guesses, but if you were expecting your period this week, then the hpt would most likely have picked up any pregnancy hormones. It is possible that your period will come late this month with the missed pills and illness, but since it is only 3 days late (many women experience late periods), it is not anything to "technically" worry about until you've gone for about 35 days without a period (I say "technically" because I know "emotionally" it is very difficult!). Sorry--I know this isn't what you wanted to hear.

Thanx once again. Yes u r right i was given antibiotics cos ive missed my pills and as a result i had withdrawal bleeding. I was just counting my dates and it shows that today marked 35 days since the first day of my last period and i was expecting my period on the 21st of this month.this pills have really messed up my system. I will consult on Saturday just to know for sure if im preg or not. Probably an ultrasound could tell exactly what is happening
