Is Chivalry Dead? And if so, are you Glad?

So you are walking into your building and a man is 20 feet ahead of you. He doesn't hold the door for the guy going in right after him, but he does for you. A feel-good feeling or can you manage that door by yourself? I like chivalry. If someone wants to hold a door for me, I say knock yourself out and thank you! I hold doors for anyone. But should a man feel he has to do those 'old-fashioned' things for a woman? Why? She can handle a door, she can handle anything. True.

Adaptive Yoga - benefits for women of all ages and abilities

I feel like a big old (hey, less of the 'old'!) hypocrite here for extolling the benefits of Yoga. Simply because I haven't the patience for it myself. I'm probably a prime candidate for needing yoga - I can't settle down, it's hard for me to watch a movie or veg out and my mind races a lot. What I need to do, what I can put on the back-burner, who needs what and on and on.

Nope - no man-bashing here! A new study from the University of Michigan found that the average woman with 3 or more children (um, yeah, that would be me) does an average of 28 hours of housework a week (again, that would be me) that does not include regular childcare. And having a husband causes an additional 7 hours of weekly housework for women. See? You boys are a lot of work!

Since more and more of us are overweight, you might think body acceptance would be more common. However, a Yale study shows this is not necessarily so. Using 1100 subjects (ages 35-74), Yale's Rudd Center for Food Policy and Obesity gathered information on topics ranging from job discrimination, to housing, to name calling and other forms of harassment.

Choosing Prayer over Care - would you risk the life of your child?

I think most of us have heard the story of the 11 year old Wisconsin girl who died as a result of Type 1 Diabetes complications. Her parents declined doctor or hospital care, preferring to use their faith in the power of prayer and healing. The girl, Madeline Neumann had been sick, according to relatives for some time. She had been taken out of regular schools to be home schooled and had not seen a doctor since the age of 3.

Suing Big Tobacco in 2008 - right or wrong?

Tobacco companies are still being sued. Tobacco companies have hidden the addictive properties of their products for years. They continue to market to teenagers, and specifically target women by calling their cigarettes 'slims' and using slogans like 'it's a woman thing' while showing a gorgeous, slim, successful woman smiling at the camera and puffing away on her cigarette.

The words "child beauty pageant" sound to me like the words "you're on a vegetarian diet" would sound to Hannibal Lecter.
