Glynis:
I started focusing on green tea because research has really proven that green tea is very effective in combating the effects of cancer. It basically helps in the prevention of the accumulation of free radicals that can turn into aging disease in cancer. And so, I would advise anyone to basically get on the Internet and put in “green tea and cancer” and the research will come up that really will prove to you why it’s important to drink green tea if you’re going through any type of cancer.

I think green tea is a bit over-hyped. What about oolong tea or pu-erh tea? I've read a lot of different articles...some suggest that green tea is more effective or has more antioxidants, but I've also read articles that suggest that Oolong has more. Also, the antioxidant activity varies greatly from one individual tea to the next. Also, I've read that black tea contains antioxidants distinct from those in green tea--the oxidation process does break down certain beneficial chemicals, but it creates others!

I suspect that the quality and freshness of the tea is also important. The same chemicals that give teas their unique aromas are the catechins and flavonoids. If the tea smells and tastes really good, it's probably better for you than bland or stale tea!

Glynis - Thanks for this important information. I'm going to take your advice and learn more about green tea, and find the box that I know is somewhere in the back of a kitchen cabinet. :-)
Take good care,
Pat

Important to remember is the anti-oxidants in green tea play a role in preventing the genetic mutations which lead to cancer. Green tea is no cure for cancer, it is a part of prevention.

Anon - Great point. Indeed, green tea and other anti-oxidants don't cure cancer. They can be important tools in cancer prevention.
Take good care,
Pat
