VIDEO - HERSTORY: Melissa Shares Her Thoughts When Diagnosed With Lung Cancer

Melissa explains what ran through her mind when she was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.

Melissa:
When I was diagnosed with the lung cancer, I really was in shock. The doctor told me that I had non-small cell lung cancer and it was in stage 4 and, I really didn’t know what that meant.

I didn’t know that there was any stages of cancer. I didn’t know what stage 4 meant so I asked him to clarify that and basically, he told me that stage 4 was the most advanced stage and the reason why I was in stage 4 was because it had metastasized outside of the lungs into the bones.

So, at that point I was extremely scared and shocked and my first question to him was, “Are you telling me that I am going to die?”
