VIDEO - HERSTORY: Melissa Shares How She Feels Knowing Her Cancer Is Terminal

Melissa describes what it is like for her knowing her lung cancer is terminal.

Melissa:
It’s scary. I mean, I am not going to lie, it’s definitely scary and the average time is about 14 months and they say about 3% of the patients live past five years.

I am 31 years old so that doesn’t, I mean, I’d be 36 years old; that’s really scary. I mean, I want to get married and have children and have grandchildren and do all these things and it’s, you know, it’s scary not knowing that I may not get a chance to.

But on the other hand, I am young and I am a fighter and I am going to do whatever I can do to fight this thing and live as long as possible. There’s new drugs coming out all the time and hopefully, if I can get to the five-year mark, then there will be some new innovative things out there that can help me live just another year longer and another year longer and that’s kind of what my thought process is.

If I can live ‘till the 14 months, and then, once I make it to there then, can I make it to the five-year mark, and then from there, can I make it to the ten-year mark and just live that way?
