I would definitely tell them you have to be your own health advocate. The health care system is scary and big and there’s a lot of people in it. And it seems like they are all on your side and a lot of them are, and everybody does want to genuinely help you for the most part, but on the other side of it, you are just a number and you really have to fight for your own health and not be afraid to ask questions.

If you don’t understand something make sure that you get it clarified. Make sure that you have somebody like a caregiver in the room with you when you are talking with a doctor writing things down so that you have information documented. I would definitely say you need to be your own health advocate. That’s extremely important because if you don’t, then you may just get lost in the health care system and not get the right treatment that you need.
