VIDEO - HERSTORY: Shelly Shares What It Was Like Growing Up With Type 1 Diabetes

December 2, 2008 - 10:33am 258 reads 0 comments

Shelly shares what it was like to grow up in childhood and as a teen with type 1 diabetes.

Shelly:
Difficult. Challenging. When I first got it we got very involved with the JDRF(Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation), and I went to a diabetic camp and every year I would go, and that kind of helped, just getting in touch with the community of families that are struggling with the same thing.

My teenage years I kind of fell away from that. Normal teenage things on top of hormonal diabetic things are difficult. It makes it doubly challenging. So it was challenging.
