About Me My Mirena IUD Nightmare
Hello,nice to meet you all.
I had my thyroids removed just over a year a go,I have had trouble getting the meds right but slowly getting there.
I had Mirena IUD removed a few months ago after having it over 4 years,(I had it to control heavy bleeding)I found out it was the cause of a lot of my medical problems, weight gain, cysts on my left ovary, breast lump, and my thyroid being removed, now I am trying to get my hormones sorted out after Mirena mucked them up totally.
I am so mad about what the Mirena done to me and thousands of other women, some dont even know Mirena is the cause of some of their problems,
I know some women do ok on mirena, I thought it was the best thing for the first few years until I realised what it was doing to me and then went to the doctor and got it out straight away,I feel much better now all though I havnt lost any weight yet,Im working on that, its very hard to get it off.
I gained 2 stone on mirena, before that I stayed at the same weight no matter what I ate all my life, never had a problem with weight,I look like Im 6 months pregnant because of the bloating and Im still depressed about my weight.
I go through the Mirena crash still, I hope it goes away real quick.
Any how if you are interested in reading my full story and that of other women with mirena problems and the horrific things(perforated Uterus,IUD lost in their body, tubal pregnancies, death,it goes on and on) that have happened to them ,have a look at my Mirena help site below...

Hi net, welcome to Empowher!
Thank you for sharing your story. Many women have had great success with Merina but many others, like you, have had complications that make it impossible to continue using Mirena for birth control.
Mirena (made by Bayer) lists the following side effects on it's website:
Menstrual changes
Lower abdominal pain (cramps)
Acne or other skin problems
Back pain
Breast tenderness
Headache
Mood changes
Nausea
Ovarian cysts have been diagnosed in about 12% of Mirena® users. In most cases, the enlarged follicles disappeared spontaneously during two to three months of observation.

Serious complications include
Mirena® going through (perforating) the uterus, which may require surgery
Mirena® coming out by itself (expulsion), which can lead to unwanted pregnancy; if this happens, use back-up birth control, such as a condom, and call your healthcare professional

Mirena is heavily advertised here in the United States.
net, thanks again for your story. I hope you are able to lose the weight gain, an extra 28 pounds (two stone) is a lot to carry around.
I have had my Mirena IUD since July 2006; I recently had a health screening at work and my TSH level was abnormally low (.007) which indicates hyperthyroidism with T3/T4 levels being elevated. I just stumbled upon some information online that indicates that the IUD could be the cause! My liver enzymes are a little high also. I have never had thyroid problems until now. In fact, my #s were normal when I had everything checked early 2007. I'm thinking I am going to get my IUD removed ASAP!!! Do most people return to 'normal' after removal? I also have mood swings, insomnia, severe heart palpitations and low blood pressure. Any input is welcome!
Hi, I just had Mirena put in 2 days ago. I was in severe pain until this morning. The cramping was like labor pain, I called my Dr. twice, and he wanted to take it out. NO WAY! It was excrutiating to put in, and I didn't go through that for nothing.
One of the reasons we wanted this was to improve our relations as a couple. I'm excited to not have to constantly worry and use condoms. My main question is, will my husband feel it, and if so, will it hurt him? BTW I am a very small person, about 95 lbs. and 4'11".
Anyone who can respond will be so helpful.
Thanks.
Hi,It doesnt hurt at all to get Mirena out.
Some women have written to me to tell me their partner can feel the strings, and it is painful for them, they can be cut shorter and they do soften after a few months, but if they are cut shorter it may be harder to get the Mirena out.
good luck with it,Net
Hi, I had mirena put in about 6 months ago. Not only have I gained weight but I have terrible mood swings also. My face is starting to break out and both my husband and I feel it during certain positions. I am also 4' 11". I want to have it taken out but I am so scared of what to expect. When I had it put in it was like was having contractions all over again.
