Hello,nice to meet you all.
I had my thyroids removed just over a year a go,I have had trouble getting the meds right but slowly getting there.
I had Mirena IUD removed a few months ago after having it over 4 years,(I had it to control heavy bleeding)I found out it was the cause of a lot of my medical problems, weight gain, cysts on my left ovary, breast lump, and my thyroid being removed, now I am trying to get my hormones sorted out after Mirena mucked them up totally.
I know some women do ok on mirena, I thought it was the best thing for the first few years until I realised what it was doing to me and then went to the doctor and got it out straight away,I feel much better now all though I havnt lost any weight yet,Im working on that, its very hard to get it off.
I gained 2 stone on mirena, before that I stayed at the same weight no matter what I ate all my life, never had a problem with weight,I look like Im 6 months pregnant because of the bloating and Im still depressed about my weight.
I go through the Mirena crash still, I hope it goes away real quick.
Any how if you are interested in reading my full story and that of other women with mirena problems and the horrific things(perforated Uterus,IUD lost in their body, tubal pregnancies, death,it goes on and on) that have happened to them ,have a look at my Mirena help site below...

I have had my IUD for alomst 3 years. I have had no complaints other than the insertion...that hurt like hell! I am having it out next month since we want to have another baby. If I had seen these message boards about the horrible side effects others are having I probably wouldn't have done it. But again...I have had no bad side effects at all it has been wonderful! Good Luck!

I have three friends with them, that love it and don't have any problems. Unfortunately, we are all on here making sure we are not crazy and that the mirena is to blame! I'm jealous because I loved the idea of it, but am now a medical mess and unsure if the mirena was to blame, will find out, after three years I had it removed a couple days ago. Thank Gawd it came out easier than it went in! It was over in ten seconds with just a second of pain! Good luck with yours and at least if you do start having issues, you'll know what caused them! Take care!

I'm sorry for all of your problems!
I had Mirena put in 2 years ago, and I didn't feel any pain while getting it put in. I'm 5' 3", and neither myself nor my husband could feel it, unless he was using his fingers! LOL! I also didn't have any side effects after it was put in, and I haven't gained any weight. I guess it all depends on the person...
I got it because I didn't have the time for the healing period involved with a tubal, and we were sick of using condoms. It also made my mood swings MUCH better, instead of worse. As we had our 4th child before Mirena, neither of us could afford the time for actual surgical procedures.
Anyway, just wanted to weigh in and give the other side of the coin...

I have had the Mirena for 1yr and I've gained over 30 pnds. I've always been heavyset and comfortable with it and my weight remained the same. Now I'm back at my delivery weight and my moods are extreme. I've finally made the decision to remove the Mirena. Its good if you don't like using conoms and have the same partner and don't mind gaining weight. But I thought it was an awful expierience..

I feel for your horrible experiences with your Mirena IUD. It really can be a tough ordeal I'm learning. I've gained considerable amount of weight with my Mirena IUD
I just had a lump removed from the lower rt side of my abdomen yesterday. My surgeon asked me many times if I had endometriosis. I've never had that. I asked if maybe it had something to do with my Mirena IUD but she didn't think so.. I find out on Monday what the mass was they just removed. If it has any relation to my Mirena IUD I'M DONE. I will remove it for good this time.

Stephanie,
September 21, 2009 - 10:15pmI had a mirena insurted about 2 months ago, and have since had it removed, since my spotting went back to heavy bleeding. The doctor also found a mass in my uterus just above the mirena, not on the uterus wall. I have had two biopsies done with nothing definitive, the last biopsy showed the tissue was too decomposed. I go for another hystosonogram tomorrow to see if the mass is still there, if it is the dr. said I will need a D&C before moving onto a hysterectomy, since he wants to do the hsyterectomy laproscopically and also remove my last ovary due to multiple cyst on the ovary. They can not remove the uterus whole this way, it would be grinded as he put it, and not knowing what this mass is, it could spread the bad cells. I'm curious was the lump there prior to the mirena, and what did the lump turn out to be. I had the mirena removed the dr. said I had to wait a month after having it removed before having surgery. Please get back to me and let me know how you made out.
