Do you know someone who has Alzheimers? My grandfather had alzheimers and this disease runs in my family. Watching my grandmother struggle to take care of my grandfather was hard. Not only was it difficult for her to go through, it affected all of us. This is a serious illness and does not have a cure. That is why I will be participating in The Alzheimers Walk on November 1,2008. I feel I should begin investing in my future now in case I need help in the future. If you are willing, I am trying to raise funds to go towards this great cause so there is a link below to my page and if you are interested in joining the walk you can go to my page also and there is a place to sign up to walk. Thanks for reading!

Hi Tina, (and others) With Alzheimers running in my family I felt this was such a great opportunity to invest in my future by raising funds to help with not only research but with taking care of those who have alzheimers and their families. Our lives were forever changed as my grandfathers Alzheimers became increasinly worse. How sad it was to watch him go from the once happy full of life man I grew up with to a confused, lonely person that didn't always know who I, or anyone else for that matter, was. I worry what my future holds as my mother gets older and as I too get older. Will this be something I too will have? Hopefully, by that time a cure will be here. I walked my walk and was joined by some of my family. We raised $880 and though it may not seem like much it's something. I plan on volunteering wih the organization and I will be walking next year as well.
Thanks for reading!

IMALBY, I have also known people with Alzheimer's and for me, frankly it was difficult to see. To share how prevalent Alzheimer's has become, in June of this year, the Centers for Disease Control stated that Alzheimer's had become the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. Here's a few other statistics about the condition:
As many as 5.2 million people in the United States are living with Alzheimer’s.
• 10 million baby boomers will develop Alzheimer's in their lifetime.
• Every 71 seconds, someone develops Alzheimer’s.
Given such mind-boggling numbers, I think it's wonderful you're trying to raise awareness about this condition. Can you talk about how you feel given it runs in your family?
I would like to hear how your walk went and how else you're advocating for people with Alzheimer's. I'm sure women have much to gain from your knowledge. Thanks IMALBY.
