Can anyone help me? I had a stroke in june. Upon leaving the hospital i was given an information pack on reducing the risks of strokes. However, it was information that particuarly useful to patients who had strokes due to cholestral or lifestyle. My stroke was caused by atrial fibrillation and have been prescibed warfarin. Now...I know taking omega 3 is good for cholestral but is it good for af prevention. Its questions like this and many others that I need help in answering because its so confusing(it didnt take much to confuse me before the stroke)!

Hi, Pheonix, and welcome to EmpowHer! Thanks so much for your question. We're glad you found us. And you made me laugh out loud when you talk about confusion. I hear you!
I'm so sorry that you had a stroke, but it sounds as though you made a successful recovery. Let's see if I can give you some information that will help.
Do the doctors know what caused the atrial fibrillation? Does it happen often? Did you have an ECG (an electrocardiagram?)
Warfarin sodium is the generic name for Coumadin, which is a blood thinner (to help prevent clots). The fact that you're on that medicine should help you avoid a stroke in the case of future atrial fibrillation. So that's good. Are you also taking a daily aspirin?
Did your doctor believe you have any circulation problems?
For any others who may be reading this too, here's a very good page on stroke prevention:

For you, Pheonix, here's a good page on how fish oil (Omega-3 oils) help a stroke patient:

And here's a thorough page on all the good benefits you can get by taking Omega-3 fatty acids:

Does that help? Can I answer anything more for you?
