Susan Love’s Army of Women, www.armyofwomen.org has posted a Call to Action for women in the San Francisco, Stanford University area to participate in a new study. This study looks at the brain and cognitive function of breast cancer survivors and non survivors.
I am fascinated with the brain, and any studies concerning the brain pique my interest. In this study a MRI will measure brain function and brain structure. Breast cancer and its treatments can cause some temporary and long lasting problems related to memory, attention and problem solving.
If you have ever seen MRI, PET and CT scans of the brain from different population groups, you know the brain is truly incredible. Any study that looks at the brain functions with the objective to be helpful for survivors with cognitive function is a study worth every dollar, time and effort. If you know any women in the Northern California area, let them know how they can make a difference and also help their own brain function.

The Army of Women contact its memebers and ask them to contact the folks conducting the study....i.e., Stanford. After that the contact is between stanford and the patient.

Let's plan to investigate this a little more thoroughly. Avon and the Army of Women initiative must generate funds, one way or another, to support the enormous cost of registering these one million women and sorting them to various research agencies.
I think women need to know first how their information will be used by the Avon Army - and this is not at all clear from the website. I registered for the Army and they mentioned nothing....and now a "Call to Action" and I wonder who and how the "square dance" is to be "called" so to speak.
If an investigator at a research institute, say Merck, wants to conduct a study and use the Avon Army for recruits....what is the process?????
This must be made clear on the Avon Army website and it is not.
I thought you might know.
I will continue to investigate.
Many thanks for your help.
Keep your radar posted to this subject.

Yikes, good questions, but I do not have the answers. Most likely the army of women site can answer more clearly these questions. I am doubtful that the army of women would sell information.

Is this Call to Action directly sponsored by the Army of Women or is another research organization trying to recruit subjects for its study via the Army of Women?
If another research organization is actually the one looking for study subjects does the Army of Women "sell" the contact information it has collected from its Army of Women volunteers to this secondary organization?
If so, is there an informed consent that volunteers for the Army of Women sign when they register that educates them about the transfer of this information to another organization?
Thank you for answering these questions.
