I was diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation in 2008 and had no clue what I was in for. Well, 5 years later after decompression surgery I am here to say that there is life after a Chiari Malformation and that if you have the right neurosurgeon any thing is possible.
Fear came over me when I was first diagnosed with a Chiari Malformation along with utter wonderment as to how I could have been born with this and nobody ever knew, especially my parents. Non the less, I accepted my diagnosis and proceeded to have decompression surgery. Went through the surgery just fine with minimal scarring. I have no pain in my head now or any other pain that I had before. Actually I feel rather good these days. I am glad that my Neurosurgeon, Dr. Orhan Illercil was so skilled and good at what he does. I am truly blessed to have been given another chance to live a productive, full life with my husband and 2 sons. There really is life after a Chiari Malformation diagnosis.
