When you’re congested and coughing at all times of the day and night, you might think that you’ll never get better. There are medications that you can take and visits to the doctor that you can make if they are needed. You can also follow a few simple steps at home to get some relief from the coughing and sneezing that seems to make life miserable.
Go to Bed
The body needs rest when you’re feeling good, so you’re going to need even more rest to replenish your energy when you’re sick. When you sleep, your body can build up its defenses against germs and bacteria that are invading. You’ll also have more energy to get up and eat or drink things that will help to heal the body.
Take Medications
There are products that you can get over the counter that can help with congestion and coughing. Dayquil or Nyquil can be taken daily depending on how you feel. Dayquil soothes congestion and coughing during the day without making your drowsy while Nyquil is a medication that you want to take when you go to bed at night or if you want to sleep during the day. Results often last for about eight hours.
Savor the Steam
One of the things that you can do to open your nasal passages and to aid in breathing is to stand in a hot shower to inhale the steam. Another option would be to hold your face over a boiling pot of water. You could also sit in a hot tub, which would help to soothe aching muscles. The water from the hot tub can also make you sweat, which is sometimes what you need to do so that the virus that you have in your body is removed through the pores of your skin. A professional spa service can repair one that you have or install a new one in the home.
Eat Healthy
There’s nothing like enjoying a hot bowl of soup and a sandwich to make you feel better when you’re sick. You need to eat foods that are healthy and that will keep you hydrated, such as orange juice, fruits, vegetables, and soups. Hot foods can make you feel better by soothing your throat and opening your nasal passages from the steam coming off them.
Being sick isn’t a highlight of the day that you usually enjoy. Try a few ideas at home that can help you feel more like yourself. If these ideas don’t work, then a visit to the doctor might be in order.

Great share, thank you. I'm a big fan of steam as a natural decongestant, it works really well.
