It's 5 weeks in into my EmpowHER BodyMedia FITness Challenge, but unfortunately hasn't been a good week for me. I'll explain why below.
First I wanted to talk about a cool feature I discovered while looking at my stats from the BodyMedia FIT:
If you press "Expand" while looking at your stats in the Activity Manager, you can see cool graphs like this. This one is for my daily energy expenditure.
You can see where I move around more--during odd times in the late morning to afternoon (it's when I take breaks from work or eat), with intermittent activity during the evening. This is when I'm making food and going outside to run errands. This graph would probably look more interesting on a day where I'm more active.
There are also graphs for the number of steps you take (I take most of them around 5 p.m.) and how long you sleep. The sleep graph is the interesting part; you can see when you're simply lying in bed vs. actually sleeping. I'm not sure how the BodyMedia FIT determines it--perhaps I'm moving around more or not completely still. It does explain why it doesn't report the same sleeping hours as I perceive it to be, however. For instance, most night I'll be in bed for 8 hours, yet on some nights the BodyMedia FIT says I've slept for 5 to 6 hours.
But that's enough babble for now: I'll talk more about the sleep graph here on my website, The Wellness Chick.
Now for the bad news: I barely exercised during Week 5. Why? I wasn't feeling good. I could barely muster through my work, and only made it to the gym one time this week. As for walking, I made the attempt once, but stayed inside for the rest of the week. Ouch. I did manage to stay active during the weekend, though--running more errands and just walking more than I usually do.
I'm still feeling under the weather, but my goal this week is to simply get back into my exercise habit. Walk most days of the week. Strength train 3x this week. Not too hard to do. But harder to do if you're feeling ill. It's not a good idea to work out when you're sick, though--sometimes it makes it worse, so I'm playing it safe.
