It is very encouraging to read about your triumph over this difficult disease.

You've given me hope! I've just come off the pill, and now I know it could be a a very long time before I get anywhere near back to a normal life, but it's good to know it can happen. But what's a year compared to 10 right? Mines only been 5, but thanks to your story, hopefully you've cut my pain filled years in half. This is so great that you have this blog, as none of my friends have any problems like this, and cannot begin to comprehend this, yet there are so many people online that share this painful lifestyle.

Hi there.

Boy, is your story similar to mine. IC, VVS, IBS...and I want to go abroad for a year too! :) But I'm terrified that I can't because I'm so sick. These last few weeks my IC has been out of control. I don't know what's happening.

I recently went off birth control pills after taking them for, gee, at least five years. I've only had one period since. I'm having an insane amount of discharge, but no period. I'm guessing my hormones are totally out of whack, but I don't know what to do. Where do I start? I feel lost.

My doctor gave me an estrogen cream which actually seems to be helping my VVS, but like I said earlier, my IC is horrific right now. I'm pretty depressed. I'm 20, and I've never even kissed a guy, much less had sex. The doctor can't even do a q-tip swab on me because it hurts so bad. So sex would be impossible. And what guy will touch me if I can't have sex?

I'd love to hear more about how you fixed your hormonal imbalance, because that's truly what I believe is happening to me. If you ever get the chance, please contact me. My email is hjeffords@wi.rr.com

Thanks for your post, I'm sorry you're in so much pain now with your IC. With regard to just having come off birth control - give it a couple of months to see if your body is readjusting to not being on the Pill. If you don't get your period then, you may want to return to your doctor.

I know there is no cure as yet for IC, but are you undergoing any treatments? Many sufferers (and they are mostly women) have had success when they've had a bladder distention or a bladder wash. Have you talked to a doctor about your options?

Please don't feel like you will never have a relationship with a man over this. To answer your question - "what guy will touch me if I can't have sex?" The right guy for you will. It's not all about sex and certainly not in the beginning. Any man who won't continue to date you upon hearing about your health problems isn't worth bothering with. That sounds a bit like a cliche but it is true. There is hope for IC and Vulvodynia and it doesn't have to mean that you will remain relationship-less or sexless - forever.

Please check back in with us and talk to your doctor about options for helping you with your IC.
