The face is one part of the body that receives massive attention. This is especially so in people who are beauty conscious. The face to them is their image. Think about the numerous products specially made to enhance how the face looks? Mascara, toner, makeup, eye pencil, lip stick, lip gloss, lip plumpers. Feel free to stop me when you get the point.
The point you were supposed to get from all that banter is that the face is really important to all of us. I mean, how can you face the world with a roughed up face? A face full of blemishes, dark spots and is unevenly toned? It is in an attempt to run away from such a face that you are likely to invest in a basketful of beauty products. However, even after this entire struggle you face may still remain unhealthy and worn out. All because you have neglected the most important skin care routine: washing.
Face Defines Your Look
The way you wash your face will greatly impact on your skin’s outlook. The effects of proper washing even surpass those of the best of skin products. This is because it is the washing that will determine the kind of surface you apply your beloved cosmetics on. Think about it this way: when you fail to wash your face correctly and it breaks out, then the products you use will further irritate the skin. Also, wrong washing can cause massive break outs that none of your products will be able to conceal. In essence, what we are driving at is the fact that apart from applying products, your face needs proper washing for it to have that health and radiant look.
That brings us to the two billion dollar question: how do you properly wash your face?
1. Use warm water
As much as using cold water maybe revitalizing and hot water soothing, the best water to use is water that is lukewarm. This is because warm water will help ease the process of removing dirt from your face by melting it. On the other hand, cold water may not be able to melt the make-up you had applied. Hot water on its side will lead to drying of the skin thus increasing its chances of producing excess oil and consequently breaking out.
Moderately splash this water on your face until all parts get wet. Notice that this stage should not be overdone as it may cause drying of the skin. To ensure you don’t overdo it, try using a soft face towel cloth to apply the water on your face. This way you will not over indulge.
2. Apply cleanser
After wetting your face, now proceed to apply the cleanser. Now, before then, ensure that this cleanser is specially cut for your type of skin. A wrong cleanser may cause irritation or even dryness to your skin. Cleansers are products that are made to help remove dirt, dead skin cells, makeup, oil and unclog your pores. They are more effective than normal soaps that are capable of altering the skin’s pH and encourage the thriving of bacteria that cause acne. This can lead to break outs. In addition, these soaps can dry the skin by stripping it off its natural oils.
As you apply the cleanser, do it in circular motions that are headed upwards. This is in order to avoid the onset of wrinkles which happens when downward circular motions are used. In addition, massage the cleanser gently. This is because any harsh and overzealous scrubbing can lead to skin irritation and drying. This is why it is advisable to use your hands instead of some rough towel.
Do this for around one minute until all the areas are covered with the cleanser.
If you want to exfoliate your skin, do it at this stage. But do not do it too often may be twice a week.
3. Rinse off the cleanser
Splash warm water on your face and use your hands to remove any excess cleanser. Please don’t fall into the temptation of over rinsing.
4. Dry your skin
This may look like the usual thing but something else matter. The drying of your face should only involve tender dabbing and not vigorous rubbing. This is because this rubbing can cause irritation and can also foster the emergence of wrinkles. Remember also to use a very soft towel.
Conclusion
To most people, face washing is the simplest thing that even toddlers should be able to ace. However, you could be doing it all wrong. Proper face washing should not involve lots of scrubbing, use of cold water, use of hot water or even the use of any bar soap. Instead, you should use warm water, apply cleanser and softly tap your face with a soft towel to dry.
