I had a hysterectomy 33 years ago & it was the WORST thing that ever happened to me. I went into the OR to have two small fibroids removed & left the OR without a uterus or ovaries!!! My Dr's explanation was the fibroids were too big & he's removed the ovaries to ensure I'd never get ovarian cancer! What an idiot. I was in shock and cried for days. I then found out that in the "small print" of all the paperwork I'd signed prior to my surgery, I'd given him carte blance to do what the hell he wanted. I'd always been a very small person & now my weight is really an issue for me. My tummy looks like I'm six months pregnant & regardless of what I do, the tummy remains the same size!! I guess the ONLY way I'm going to get rid of it is surgically, which I dread!! I can really empathize with all you ladies suffering the "tummy syndrome."

Hello Liz2015,
I'm so sorry to hear about this horrible experience you had. I'd like to give you a tip on the situation.
As you probably know, when your ovaries and uterus is removed you experience forced menopause. During this "artificial menopause" your progesterone and estrogen levels decrease dramatically. When your estrogen levels decrease your body searches for estrogen sources and the best source is in fat cells causing your body the convert calories into fat cells to retain more estrogen. To make up for lack of progesterone causes bloating which also looks like and feels like weight gain.
With this being said, you may not need surgery to remedy the weight gain. You probably need hormone replacement therapy. I suggest that you look into that first.
Good luck with everything.
Faith
