I'm contacting you because I wanted to share my weight loss story. I used to weigh 250 pounds. I was unhappy and unhealthy. A health scare (diabetes) woke me up and I decided it was time for a change. I lost weight through calorie counting and exercise (swimming was my favorite activity). I lost 110 pounds and I've kept it off for over 2 years now. I'm now an athlete. And addicted to running! I've run several races--including the Hood to Coast Relay Race (197 mile relay race here in Oregon). I hope 2011 has a Half Marathon and a Sprint Triathlon in my future. I think my story is different than most because I lost the weight on my own--without any programs, fad diets or surgery. My website is http://www.110pounds.com.

Anon - Congratulations on your weight loss, and for following healthy guidelines to obtain your loss. While fad and celebrity diets seem to get a lot of attention, it really does take a lot of hard work to do this, just as you've said. You have a great story to share, and I encourage you to also post it at our advocacy website, 1000 Women, which is at

Thanks for sharing your story, and best wishes for continued good health! Pat
