Interesting Article About Lupron -- A Drug Used for Endometriosis
Came across an interesting article from the National Women's Health Network about a drug called Lupron that's being used to treat endometriosis, fibroids and as a part of some fertility treatments.
According to the article the drug was originally used to treat prostate cancer in men and can have some side effects in women that include:
*Tingling,
*Itching,
*Headache and migraine,
*Dizziness,
*Severe joint pain,
*Difficulty breathing,
*Chest pain,
*Nausea,
*Depression,
*Emotional instability,
*Dimness of vision,
*Fainting,
Weakness and many, many others.
The makers of the drug say the side effects only last about six months, however. Some women say that's not the case.
Has anyone used this drug? If so, what has been your experience? Would you recommend it?

I have used Lupron a several times in the last two years for periods of six months or longer as a treatment for my endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. Aside from the expected side effects resulting from shocking my body into menopause at 21 such as hot flashes, night sweats, and mood changes I suffered far more severe effects as well.... My second time being treated with the monthly Lupron injections I began to develop symptoms of fibromyalgia. Within three months my symptoms were so extreme I was in the hospital and being checked and tested for everything from Lupus to autoimmune diseases; all with no result. It wasn't until I was so desperate in my quest for answers that I began researching everything I could find on the drug and found it can cause severe joint and muscle damage; as well as rapid bone loss. I decided to discontinue my treatment on the drug against my doctors wishes; eventually seeking help from another specialist. Within the first month off the shot I began to feel 21 again and I realized my constant body aches and joint pains began to decrease. I was shocked! Within three months I was nearly one hundred percent. I could walk up and down stairs without help again! There were clearly many negatives associated with the drug Lupron but it should be noted that in a recent laparoscopy I had in March of this year it was confirmed that my endometriosis had regressed greatly (most likely due to the use of Lupron to shut down my estrogen production). I hope this can help to give some readers a better understanding and if nothing less serve as a caution. -Ashley

Nope--no addiciton issues at all with Lupron.
I was treated with Lupron injections to help shrink my fibroids prior to surgery. I only remember some hot flashes once or twice during the two months before surgery, and maybe some emotional instability( I was very irritable over nothing). It didn't shrink the fibroids at all. I ended up having to have abdominal surgery anyway because my largest fibroid was too large to remove vaginally.
I was treated with lupron injections for six months because of my endometriosis. I immediately had serious health issues with bone pain, chest pain and rising blood pressure. My doctor said these symptoms were unrelated, but they were certainly caused by lupron. I had this done in 2001. I am still suffering with debilitating bone pain and other fibromyalgia type symptoms 8 years later. Don't use lupron unless you have a life threatening condition. I now have a disabling condition and I am only 44 years old. I have been fighting with this since I was 36 years old.
