Now on the other hand, some people are not looking to lose weight. Some lose weight without any effort, even if they do not want to lose it. There are several factors that can be responsible such as illness, poor dental hygiene, mental health, and certain medications.
Illnesses can Lead to Weightloss
A serious illness such as aids or cancer can cause loss of appetite or effect how your body gains weight. The diseases that are extremely harsh on the body give you a feeling of a constant upset stomach. This results in not being able to hold food down, and in turn depriving the body of essential nutrients. You may never have thought that your oral health could affect your appetite, but in all actuality the taste buds may have been altered in a way that does not allow you to taste properly. A sore mouth, gums, and teeth will also limit what you consume. If you are unable to bite down and chew, you may very rarely eat meat and may not be getting enough protein, which is used to build lean muscle. Certain mental conditions, such as depression, can lead to loss of appetite completely. Some with depression will go a few days without eating, which does not allow your body to build and store energy. Having energy is a must with depression because without it you may feel like just staying in bed. Not only are you losing weight, but your body can begin to shut down. Medications are prescribed on a daily basis and you may not know the side effects until you have taken it for a while. Often times, the benefits outweigh the risks. Some antidepressants need to be taken with food; however some medications cause a loss of appetite or nausea and even vomiting. You need the medicine to cure your ailment, while at the same time it is preventing you from consuming what your body needs most.
Sudden weight loss is a serious condition and you should see a doctor in the event that this occurs. Seeing a doctor can provide you with the information on how to maintain a healthy weight. There are several options available, from vitamin and nutrient supplements, to special diets that can help you gain some of that weight back or at least maintain the weight you are currently at.
