As I try to write this I am Flashing. I had a Hysterectomy 2 and 1/2 years ago. I am 55 years old. Ever since the surgery I have massive mood swings, hot flashes and night sweats. I can't sleep without a sleeping pill and now I add a muscle relaxer because of my resistance to the sleeping pills. I take Estratest but does not seem to help much. I have been on anti-depressants for 20 years my dosage had to be increased since the surgery. I read your article in the newpaper today and copied it at work. I have been browsing this web site for a while then decided to go ahead and join and write my story. I am sure it is not different that many others. I have had a hormone blood test recently and was told I am low on testoserone on the phone. I can't see my OBGYN (female) until mid July. So what does this mean another pill I imagine? Everyone has noticed the changes in me, (coworkers friends family). It seems like everyone walks around me lightly as to not upset my world because of the repercussions from me. I wish I had never had the surgery. It was not cancer just a big sist on my ovary and I suggested we just do it all. My big mistake. Anyway I will keep reading the web site and hope it will help me. Thanks for letting me vent. Deb Orr

Hello Deb:
I am in the same boat as you were 2 1/2 years ago, I've had a cycst on my ovary (the only one I have now) for the past year. I was thinking if it is there on the next sonogram just have them take all of it out too. Has any doctor told you that your symptoms are worst because you had a hysterectomy? I've had really bad symptoms (and they only started) since the ovary has appeared on my ovary. So I've been thinking that this has caused my perimenopause syptoms. I can't imagine having to wait until mid July - did you ask them to put you on a cancellation list. Sometimes that has really helped me in the past.

My husband has learned to ignore me when I'm going through one of my menopause moments. Or, maybe that's just HIS excuse - haha!

I'm sorry, I had to stop laughing so that I could read the rest of your post - I'm a "flasher," too, and we're about the same age and I had a tubal ligation to upset my body (in an effort to settle it down). A cyst on your ovary is definitely nothing insignificant; my younger sister had a partial hysterectomy done because of a similar situation.
I'm glad you finally made the move to share your story. It's really hard to have to wait so long for a doctor's appointment and try to deal with the menopause craziness.
Something I've learned to do is use humor to deflect what I might be feeling at the moment. Personally, I cannot take meds/HRT. When you got your results over the phone, were you also given any guidance or recommendations about treatment until you see your OB/GYN?
Feel free to vent any time!

Thanks for responding so fast. I also use humor on myself to keep my sanity. To ansawer your question NO there was no recommendations until I see the Dr. Just wait!!! I am having alot of short term memory problems and that is what is so funny. Some of the things I do or forget to do are hilarious. My daughters keep asking me is this what we have to look forward to. And I say yes it is!!! Deb Orr
