We've all had the common cold and some of us even suffer from autoimmune disease, but did you know these were considered mysterious?
Check out this multimedia presentation on mysterious diseases and how they were classified that way.
Have you had any of these conditions? Or do you know someone who has?

I haven't had any of those on the list although I had a close brush with Pica when I was pregnant. Pica is more common in pregnancy than when not pregnant or in males.
I craved cigars all the time, especially in my first pregnancy - but not to smoke them, I wanted to eat them. I have no idea why, it's not like I had tried to eat them before and felt I was missing out. The cravings ended after pregnancy but it was strange to want to eat something so odd - and strange how strong the cravings were. The same craving to eat cigars came back in subsequent pregnancies but not as strongly as the first and I've never had the cravings again.
Those are truly interesting. I've only had the common cold, but it's amazing to me that all these eons later, we still don't know exactly how it works.
It is hard to believe it has been 25 years since the AIDS virus was discovered in humans. I was working at a newspaper then and still remember the first news stories that came across the wires talking about this new syndrome that was attacking certain populations and baffling scientists in the meantime. It shows just how quickly something new can shake society by the scruff of the neck. Most of the other diseases and syndromes we are dealing with today are much much older than HIV.
Interesting about the cigars, Susan. I wonder what substance is in cigars that your body was craving? The story said a deficiency of certain minerals could be at play there. I have heard of pica patients wanting to eat dirt, but not cigars. You are creative!
