It's amazing to think about how mp3s, iPods and cell phones that do it all are changing our lives.
I take my ipod to the gym, for the music. It's so much fun to have a set of music that I love to work out to. But I recently stumbled upon a
couple of sites where you can actually download the workouts themselves to your ipod. Some are free; others you buy, and they are updated regularly.
Here is a page of downloadable workouts to try. You get a video of the exercises and a slideshow of the workouts:

I'm eager to try this. I'm not the type to have a personal trainer (though I wish I was in the income bracket to try, LOL) but I often would like to use some of the machines or the weights in the gym that I'm not familiar with. I'm hoping that with some of the instruction on these workouts, I'll be able to watch them in action and know how to try them myself.
That's just one source; if you google "ipod" and "workouts," many pages come up, all with different focuses and for different abilities. You can focus on your abs or your cardio; work on strength training or yoga. I'm going to think of it as my pocket personal trainer. I'll let you know how it goes!

I have a favorite source for podcasts for runners. The DJ combines great music to provide you with different tempos and interval lengths to help keep you in cadence with your pace, do a tempo run, etc.
I'm with the USA Track & Field that governs running events across the US and set the rule regarding the use of electronic devices on USATF certified race courses. Just recently, the organization backed off on banning the use of mp3 players on certified courses - IF you're not an elite or runner competing for prizes or age-group awards.
So, now my team will proudly wear their headphones, trying to keep pace with their running tunes to stay motivated over their 13.1 or 26.2 miles on Feb 15, 2009. So, we have a choice of either catching any of the bands along the route, or rocking to the ones hooked up to our ears.
Rock on!

Diane, I downloaded a similar program to my phone a few weeks ago and loved it. Believe it or not, I was able to follow (at least part of) a yoga program that included visuals. The application prompted me through different poses with instruction and explanation. (Although, I swore I heard a fire truck in the background)
I wanted to try something different when I was traveling without having to lug around DVDs, etc. I'm anxious to try other programs and even more anxious to hear how the programs you tried worked for you.
