Did anyone else see Ann Coulter on The Today Show this morning? She's promoting her latest book, and naturally saying whatever it takes to gain as much media attention as possible. I just find it so hard to believe that she can actually get away with saying what she's saying....... that single moms (unmarried, divorced, whatever), are raising the criminals of our society and that we can blame all of our country's problems on single motherhood. Apparently, according to a study she quotes, single moms cost US taxpayers $112 billion per year. I was thinking about boycotting The Today Show just because they let her on there.....

I cringe to think that you're a teacher and that you refer to your students as a mother's "bi-products." That's the most horrendous, pathetic thing I think I've ever heard regarding a child from anyone, much less a teacher. Shame on you.
I am fairly new to the status of "single mom," as I recently divorced this past year after a 22-year relationship and marriage. The length of my marriage had everything to do with my commitment to being a wife. And, quite frankly, it nearly destroyed me. The dissolution of my marriage had to do with becoming a healthy person, a better role model and a stronger mother for my children. You are so quick to judge when you know nothing about a person. No wonder you're still single.

I know a lot of women -- co-workers, acquaintances, and dear friends -- and despite the fact that they are very varied in their thoughts and opinions, I don't know anyone that thinks particularly highly of Ann Coulter. What interests me, however, is that we find her opinion notable because she is a woman. I think that if other notable "shock-value loud-mouths" (great description, Susan!) spouted off like this about single mothers, we would just acknowledge it as more of the same and move on. But when she does it, we are even more offended. Clearly, we think she should know better.
She's in the minority right now. She has two options: Change, or hit harder. She's hitting harder.
She does it because it works for her. Her beliefs get people riled up, she gets attention, she sells books, she gets on the political talk shows, her beliefs get people riled up, and the cycle starts anew.
Even if reasonable people shake their heads in disbelief.

Personally, I think Ann Coulter is out in left field without a compass. I've known a lot of single moms who raised better kids than those from intact families. I'm sure there probably are troubled children, of single moms, who grow into troubled adults, but I'd like to know where Ann Coulter gets her statistics.
Come to think of it...wasn't President-Elect Obama raised by a single mom?

Yes, Coulter made a big deal about mentioning that "B. Hussein Obama" (as she refers to him) was raised by a single mom. Not to mention Bill Clinton.
I mentioned her Today Show interview to my kids and they were completely shocked that an adult would say the things that she said. And get away with it. (Of course, we got on the subject of free speech at that point.)
In the end, my kids' response to Ann Coulter: "Ann, you're an idiot. Get over yourself."

I haven't heard this, but from your post it sounds horrible. Is Ann Coulter blaming the single moms or the kids' no-where-to-be-found dads? (From your post, I'm assuming it is another "blame the victim" scenario with the woman to blame).
I'm not sure if I can stomach any information about this, if I do decide to look into it further...
oh, and just an aside, did she really lump "strippers" into the same category as rapists and murderers?!

Beaver is half her mom and half her dad...The fact is (the world over), the paler your skin is(i.e., the further it is from the color of our excrement), the more valuable you'll consider your children, FACT. Before you let that upset you, consider this: Whites(people who visibly blush, and can't hide disease vectors on their skin) make up roughly 4% of the 7 billion humans on earth, they are also currently at below replacement rate birth levels, which means they're going extinct:)

It's pretty crazy what she's saying on the talk show circuit. Here's one of the Today Show interviews:

I couldn't watch the whole thing. I would have ended up punching my tv.
