I started experiencing hot flashes about 5 years ago. Since then, I was always in search of a nice hand fan to use when I was out in public. Not the electric type. They’re a little weird to pull out in a restaurant or theater. I wanted something that was discreet and pretty. I could find a few Asian designs and sandlewood of course. But after a short time, they would fall apart. I said to my husband, Jack, there’s a need for a nice fan. Something I could carry in my purse and not be embarrassed to use. He totally agreed and the whole project began. It took a little longer than anticipated (but doesn’t everything) but we are happy with the end result. I personally have the fans all over our house. I hope you will visit the site and pick out a beautiful fan for yourself.

Cathy,
How hard was it starting your own company in an industry you didn't have experience in?

Todd -
I have 20+ years experience in graphic design. That gave us a real advantage in creating the line. We were able to design all aspects including the logo, fans, hangtags, advertising, sales sheets, bus. cards, etc... all that is involved.
I do freelance work for a company here in Charlotte, NC that designs school supplies. They were able to help me find a supplier for the fans. There are no fan manufacturers in the U.S. so, we had to go to China. There were many kinks to workout but all in all it went fairly smoothly.
If you are thinking of starting a business where you are dealing with the Chinese, expect communication problems. We had a hard time with the term "embroidery" for example. They need samples for reference - that helps tremendously.
I hope I answered your questions. And, I hope you visit our site. Many wives out there need fans!

Hi Cathy,
Thanks for sharing your story and for putting your link on our site. There are so many women who are searching for products to help cool them down. The best company's are born out of need. You were having "Hot Flashes" and couldn't find something that was durable, pretty and could really cool you off. And now look at you. You've created a fabulous product. I applaud you for doing this.
I was so excited when my friend, Pamela, told me about your company. I can't believe that you've just launched your site. You can certainly see how much time you've spent to select just the right product. They are beautiful. The packaging is equally is pretty. I'm going to order extra fans for my girl friends.
Cathy, you are going to help so many women with your product. I can't wait to try mine.
Best in health,
Michelle
